October with Baby Que Baby Que has come a long way since July 2021 when she first was rescued from a cruelty case. She was rescued by the SPCA of Texas. On September 11th I attended the first meet and greet. On that day we ran into some problems. I realized that she did not understand personal space or boundaries. Over the months of September and October that was my main goal, to establish personal space and boundaries. I’ve discovered that Baby Que is an extremely quick learner. She quickly learned to respect me and learned that I am the boss and not her. After we established respect I started round penning. She quickly learned, but we are still improving. Once I felt that I gained her trust we started working on obstacles. I started off with easier ones like stepping over jumps then proceeded to having her walk in between two tarps. With every obstacle we tried she was never afraid. I have currently not found anything that scares her. Baby Que is definitely challenging my creativity. Baby Que has bonded very well with me. She quickly adjusted to her environment and became friends with several of the other horses. One of my favorite things that Baby Que does is when I walk up to her she greets me with a very loud neigh. In the month that I’ve had her, her personality has been showing itself more and more. She is very curious about her surroundings. Later on in the month I brought her to one of my weekly 4-H ride nights. When I first took her into the arena there were over 20 other horses. The situation was overwhelming but I was very pleased to see her calm down and watch the horses quietly. This was a very different situation from the very first meet and greet. Overall I have enjoyed learning and getting to know Baby Que better. I am excited to keep working and improving with her.
