October Journal Entry

This is our very first monthly journal! Please submit your entry by October 31st at 11:59 PM. Each journal must be at least 250 words and should include updates on your horse’s progress, challenges, and breakthroughs. This is the good, the bad, and the ugly if you will. Be sure to attach conformation photos from all four sides of your horse, along with a 2–5 minute video showing their progress this month.

I want you to be completely honest in these journals. This is about learning, growing, and documenting the real journey with your horse so you can share it later on. I recomend keeping a running record of your journal wether that be written in a physical journal or on a platform like excel or doc. I’ll be giving feedback on each entry, and some journals may even be highlighted on our Homes for Horses social media.

Over the past month, I have had the opportunity to work with my horse, Prince, and watch him adjust to his new environment. When we first brought him home, he unloaded from the trailer very well, which showed that he was calm and cooperative throughout the transition. Even though everything around him was new, Prince was very curious and spent time exploring the area, observing the other horses, and getting used to the sounds and smells of his surroundings. His curiosity helped him settle in quickly, and by the end of the first day, he already seemed comfortable. Another positive part of his adjustment was how easily he got along with the other horses. Introducing a new horse to a herd can sometimes be difficult, but Prince handled it smoothly and showed good social behavior from the start. One challenge we have faced involves feeding time, because Prince gets extremely excited when he knows food is coming. Sometimes he runs up behind me, which can be a scary, but he has been doing a lot better. Despite this, he has shown a willingness to learn and improve. Overall, this month has been a valuable time for both of us as we continue bonding and building trust. Through daily care, spending time together, and consistent interaction, our connection has grown stronger, and I have learned more about his personality, which is sweet, curious, and eager to please. I look forward to continuing our progress in the months ahead.
