Journal entry (November)

This month was a lot busier . I had a horse show with my other horse, and it was the last of the series. I was really focusing on that and getting him ready for that show, I won reserved champion, which felt like a great accomplishment for all our hard work. Some setbacks we had to overcome was the weather, it was not the best we had lots of rain and cold winds and with daylight saving time ending, it got darker a lot quicker so I couldn’t train some days after school with balancing other activities. Also, since it was the holidays that filled a lot of our time. But we spent a lot of time working on groundwork, such as walking over poles and other obstacles as well as backing through poles. Also working on loading and unloading into the trailer and we tied her up for 45 minutes and she stood perfect without fighting and trying to pull back or pawing on the ground. Since she did so good, we will be upping the time which she is having to stand. Next month, we’re going to be getting back on track with a strict schedule. We hope to start riding soon and really focus on building more muscle and just all in all having her fill out nicely. Her behavior has changed so much for the better. Leah is truly amazing me and doing better every single day. She’s so much more calm and trusting. I can easily halter her and walk her around, and she stops on command and backs up well. We are also picking up her front feet, which she does great, and working on her back feet which need a little more time but she is doing great. We have also gotten her on a great feeding schedule which gives her the nutrients she needs as well as accommodating to my other horse.

This is a great update, Danika! You handled a busy month really well, and it is awesome to hear how much calmer and more trusting Leia is becoming. Your groundwork is looking solid and she is making good progress with tying, loading, and picking up her feet. The feeding program sounds perfect for where she is at and she looks really good!

Next month let’s focus on staying consistent with your schedule so she can keep building muscle and confidence. You are doing a great job with her and it is showing every week.
